The Gold Ducats of The Netherlands has been judged Best Specialized Book on World Coins of the Year by the Numismatic Literary Guild. The book was judged the best of all books dealing with world coins. Winners were announced during the NLG Bash on the night of Thursday, August 11, during the 2016 ANA World’s Fair of Money in Anaheim, California.

This book is based on a database of 20,000 records collected during five years of research. It includes all gold ducats minted by the Gelderland mint (1586-1803) and mints of Batenburg, Hedel, ‘s-Heerenberg, Stevensweert, Nijmegen, Gorinchem, Groninger Ommelanden, Gronsveld, Haarlem, Middelburg, Vianen, Thorn, Breda and Zierikzee.

A copy of this type was sold in January 2018 for $2.16 million (read more in CoinWeek ). The book describes a historical background of this coinage, all specimens known listed – described and pictured (if possible), analysis of all dies known as well as information on strikes in silver and re-strikes.

The second edition of the monograph of the largest Polish gold coin, which was published in 2018 and is almost out-of-print. The new edition of the book is issued on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Polish 100 ducats and includes, among others, catalog of all known coins struck in gold and silver with 100 ducats dies. Print run of the book is only 100 numbered copies.

A foreword to the book is written by Mateusz Woźniak, the curator of the Numismatic Cabinet of the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski in Cracow.

The Coinage of Friesland

The Coinage of Friesland has been judged Best World Coin History Book, along with the awarded goldducats.com website, by Acquisition International in the Business Excellence Awards 2021. Winners were announced on June 18 in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, United Kingdom.

This is the first comprehensive book on the Friesland coinage, whose publication was preceded by several years of research, queries in museum and private collections and numerous library collections. A foreword is written by the outstanding, late numismatist from Friesland, an expert on Frisian coinage with 50 years of experience – Jille B. Westerhof.

The first 45 pages of the book describe the history and coinage of Friesland from its beginning until the closure of the mint in 1752, incl. historical background of individual mint buildings up to modern times. A lot of space is devoted to relatively unknown in the literature coinage in the period 1591-1594 in the temporary Friesland Mint in Reiderschans. In addition, full information about the mint staff – mintmasters, die sinkers, wardens and assayers – is also provided.

The coin catalog includes a total of 116 types of Friesland coins minted in 1580-1738, from gold to copper one. The book includes several dozen previously unpublished photos, printed in photographic quality. For each coin type all varieties known the author are listed.
